Victory in Vegas for "Dynamite"

Las Vegas, Nevada

On the last night of the UWMTA training camp there was a live fight card set to take place in the Tropicana Hotel & Casino. Fighters from New Jersey, Nevada, Ohio, California, and throughout the U.S. were set to compete. Kickboxing celeberties in attendance would include, Kru Vut, Master Toddy, Saekson Janjira, Kit Cope, Ben Garcia, Melcor Menor, Phil Baroni, "The Sleeper" Walter Michalowski, and Im sure Im forgeting to name a few. When the opportunity to fight in Las Vegas presented itself Jason jumped on it, I mean how often do you get the chance to fight on the strip in Vegas. Jason weighed in at 160lbs and was matched against Toby Greer who currently trains with Kru Vut Kamnark in California. This fight was to be with no head gear, no shin guards, 14 oz gloves, and was set for three two minute rounds. Here is quick run down. The fight went the distance but was not even close, Jason controled the fight from start to finish. To Tobies credit he landed a couple of good knees, a few punches, and like one leg kick. Dent landed several leg kicks, lots of knees to the thighs and mid section, a nice left kick to the body, and of course his patent switch right hand found its mark more than once. Toby was wobbled on a few different occasions and even stooped to head butting in desperation. When the bell rang there was no doubt who had won the fight.Jason would like to thank his Mentor Dan Rawlings for being in his corner once again, and also thank Nick, Mike, and Brett for there support at the fights. Notch another victory in for the GriffonRawl Ohio team.

"2003" UWMTA Training Camp

Las Vegas, Nevada

This past week GriffonRawl Fighters Mike Russo, Nick Fross, and Jason Dent all attended this years action packed Muay Thai training camp held in beautiful Las Vegas. The camp was held in the Tropicana Hotel & Casino directly on the strip, right next to the MGM, New York-New York, Excaliber,and the Luxor. This may sound like a dream vacation but make no mistake it was pretty intense, and physically demanding. The camp covered everything from conditioning, pad holding, stretching, teaching, refereeing, sparring, history, phiosphy, and more! Also on a positive note Dan Rawlings the man who started the GriffonRawl team was there in attendance and was one of the instructors working for Kru Vut this year. I could go on forever about how awesome this trip was and what a great experience it was for those who attended, I hope there will be more of us going next year. Our school should benefit greatly from the qaulity of information and instruction that we obtained from Kru Vut Kamnark and the entire staff. At the end of this Camp there was a live Muay Thai show featuring some fighters from the camp and fighters from all over the U.S. I was fortunate enough to get a spot on the fight card, I will post a seperate write up on this shortly. Extreme Combat Challenge "Assault on A-Town"

Anderson, Indiana

Mike and Jason traveled to out of state this weekend for Jason to make his Proffesion MMA debut in a cage. The show was very exciting and there was over 15 fights. Jason took on Tim Newland from Muncie, Indiana in one of the featured bouts and was able to finish the fight in the third round. Jason was able to out strike Tim on his feet easily so Tim did a good job at getting Jason to the ground but that was not good enough because Jason is no slouch on the ground either and was able to submit Tim with a Triangle choke. P.S. After elbowing Tim in the head over a dozen times ! Great fight Jason is still undeafeted in MMA and is now in the Pro ranks.

World Extreme Fighting Championships 3 "Shake the Shrine"

Jacksonville, Florida

Dan Rawlings makes successful MMA Debut.World Extreme Fighting would be Dan's first venture into the world of MMA, it would mark the first time he wouldhave to fight in a cage. His opponent would be Matt Horning from Dayton, Ohio who sports an MMA of 10-3 after this fight. Now that Dan has been training in ground fighting to supplement his stand up game he is becoming a well rounded fighter. This fight only lasted two rounds, round one saw the fight on the ground with Dan being able to neutralize his opponents submission attempts until the end of the round by using his half guard and full guard. His opponent made a stupid decision in round two by deciding to stand up with Danny. Dan clinched Matt against the fence and landed multiple knee to his solar plexus which forced the vebal submission. Great fight Dan the GriffonRawl Ohio team wishes you luck in your future fights and looks foward to having you in our classes in August.

The Warriors Challenge Muay Thai Kickboxing Championships

Dayton, Ohio

This show featured a night a amature Muay Thai bouts (Promoted by Manuel Taningco) headlined by Ben Yelle vs. Jason Dent. The main event between Ben and Jason would take place under Proffessional Muay Thai rules (No shin guards, no head gear, 12oz. gloves, and would consist of five 2 minute rounds. Jumping straight into the fight, Jason won rounds 1 & 2, while Ben picked up rounds 3,4 and 5. My hat is off to Ben not only is he a great fighter but he is also a cool guy too. I look foward to meeting him in the ring again in the future. For my own ego I must add that I left some trophys on his face in the form of a black eye and huge purple bubble under his left eye. To Bens credit he chopped the shit out of my leg, (Looks like we will be doing a lot more Thai Blocks in class in the near future !) I would like to thank Ryan Madigan and Mike Russo for coming out and supporting me. Ryan did a fantastic job of wrapping my hands, ankles, and stretching me out. Well, I guess its back to class to get ready for the next fight !

BAD A$$ Xtreme Fighting Contest - Finals !

Niles, Ohio

In what would soon be considered the fight of the night Jason "Dynamite" Dent would next face last years BAD A$$ Middleweight Champion. Last years champion was none other than "Irish" Davie Mcbride an accomplished kickboxer himself. This fight was an all out war with everything from lighting fast spinning back kicks too thunderous bombs being thrown by both men. The turning point of the fight came late in the second round when Jason was able to open up a nasty cut above Davie's left eye. Seeing blood trickling down Davie's face Jason would turn up the tempo of the fight and start landing numerous rib brusing shin kicks to the body of a fading "Irish" Davie. The third round would start of much like the second with Jason controlling the tempo of the fight and landing the better shots of the two. Closing in on the end of the third round Jason would try like hell to put Davie down to the canvas but the former BAD A$$ champ refused to go down and shows why he was last years champion. Left in the judges hands there was no doubt who had won this fight as all three judges scored the fight in Jasons favor awarding him the unanimous decision. (What a hell of a fight !)Finally the championship match of the middleweight division, where Jason would face fellow finalist Lee "The Kid" Kreisher. The action in the first round was fairly even, at least until the last ten seconds of the first round where Jason would score the first knockdown of the round. However "The Kid" was not about to give up yet as he sprung back to his feet rather quickly, but right as the tow were about to engage again the bell soundend ending round one. Heading into round two Jason could sense his opponent was still rocked from the first knock down. As soon as the bell for wound three sounded Kreisher made a foolish mistake and rushed straight in at Jason, instinctivley Jason responded with a front push kick which sunk deep into his foe's stomach. Due to the impact of the kick Lee's hands came down a little and Jason made sure to capitalize quickly by throwing another vicious left and right combination. with both punches hitting their mark it was just to much for Lee as he unconciously fell face forawd to the mat for the count. What a way to end the evening ! Congratulations to Jason for having such a dominant performance in this tournament,and bringing home a "W" for the home team. Also a special thanks must go out to jason's family, friends, and teammates (Mike Russo, Ivan Erceg, and Marko Puljic). who came out to show their support. Expect to see more action in the ring from the GriffonRawl Ohio Team in "2003".

Ryan "The Lion" Madigan wins again !

Woodbridge, Virginia

On a show promoted by Scott Howard and Sean Douglas, Ryan was able to add yet another victory to his ever growing Proffesional record. Prior to Ryan's fight there had been a verbal agreement that the Muay Thai match would be for 4 rounds, since it was to be the main event of the evening. To jump back a few clicks the rest of the card consisted of a mix of Muay Thai, a couple of Mixed Martial Arts matches, and one Shidokan fight where Promoter/Fighter Sean Douglas walked away with the victory. Now back to "The Lion's match round 1 consisted of Ryan methodically picking apart his oppenent. Ryan was able to throw a lot of punching combinations that he would always end with a kick to the leg, body, or head, the only thing Ryan's oppenent was able to score in Round 1 was a Right hand to Ryan's head. Now on to round 2, Ryan would open things up with a straight right hand that would send his opponent from the middle of the ring clear into the ropes. With his oppenent on the ropes "The Lion" would start to chop at his legs at will. (That's what Muay Thai is all about!) In the 3 round Ryan was able to land many head kicks. Landing at will Ryan's confidence began building, with that said Ryan would attempt a front leg spinning back kick to his oppenents body. The spinning back kick would just barely miss it's mark only grazing the side of his oppenent. Later in the round Ryan got caught by a kick to the head which would open a nasty cut above Ryan's right eyebrow, however for those of you who know Ryan know that it takes a lot more than that to slow "The Lion" down. Ryan would next pin his opponent against the ropes where he would land several good old fashioned knees to his opponent to end the round. During the rest period Ryan's coach (Lorenzo Scott) was able to stop the bleeding from Ryan's cut and had him ready to Roar into the 4th round of a fight he was already winning. However right before the 4th round bell could sound Ryan's oppenent had his gloves cut off and refused to fight the 4th round in which they had already agreed upon. In my opinion only I think that Ryan's opponent new he had been beaten and was just trying to play off the cut so he would look good. Ryan should have been awarded the KO victory since his opponent was unable to answer the bell in the 4th, instead he was awarded the Unanimous decision victory. Way to go "Lion" the GriffonRawl team congratulates you on your recent victory. It's good to have a high caliber fighter like yourself coming out to our school to provide good quality sparring sessions. We look foward to seeing you again!

BAD A$$ Xtreme Fighting Contest - Preliminaries !

Niles, Ohio

This event is similar to a tough man event. The rules for this event are all Boxing goes and as far as kicking it is legal but only from the waist to the shoulders. Technically this kind of fighting does not even classify as any of the three forms of Kickboxing (Muay Thai, International, or Waist & Above), however nonetheless the money for first prize is good and it is good practice. Any wins or losses are not recorded onto Jason’s Kickboxing record. Remember this show is just the preliminaries and the finals will be held next Friday. Official ResultsJason "Dynamite" Dent destroyed his first opponent in a mere: 58 seconds of R1, via TKO referee stoppage. The Stoppage came after his opponent crumbled to his knees from a barrage of right and left crosses. With this win Jason reserves the right to advance to the to the finals of this tournament next Friday. There he will have a chance to win $1,000 in prize money, and the right to be called the Mahoning Valley BAD A$$ Middleweight tournament Champion. So stay tuned!
