The IFBL held their tenth event on December 15, 2007 in Niles, OH. Team Griffon-Rawl sent amatuer's William Jackson and Dan Polewchak to make their debut's and Nick Killian and Tom Lutz into their second contest. Team owner Jason Dent was pitted against the current IFBL world lightweight champion, Harris Sarmiento. What follows is a recap of Griffon-Rawl participants.Dan Polewchak started the night off with a very hard fought three round fight. Dan looked good in his debut showing nice skills on the ground. The fight went back and forth but when all was said and done, Mike Bothwell received a unanimous decision. William Jackson got his first taste of action against a very tough opponent in Chris Elliot. William fought hard but got his arm trapped midway through the first round and was unable to stop a series of strikes. Showing true warrior spirit, William refused to tap to strikes, but the referee stepped in at 1:54 to call a stop via TKO.Jay Racick was pitted against Nick Killian in his second contest. Nick was fighting a virus but didn't make any excuses and came out fighting hard. Nick showed how well rounded he is combining his standup, takedowns and grappling techniques on his way to a second win via unanimous decision. The final Griffon-Rawl amatuer showcased was Tom Lutz taking on Lamar Holmes. Tom came out very strong setting the pace and landing hard strikes right off the bat. Tom looked good on his way to receiving his second consecutive victory via tap out to strikes at 1:57 of the very first round. In the nights main professional event, Jason Dent faced the IFBL World Lightweight Champion Harris Sarmiento from Hawaii. Of the five, five minute rounds, the first four showcased both fighters excellent kickboxing skills. Harris and Jason traded amazing hand combinations and kicks giving the crowd a show for the ages. Jason said afterwards he felt the scoring would be close and dug deep in the fifth round and started landing hard shots including one that clearly rocked Harris, forcing him to attempt a takedown. Jason sprawled hard and was able to lock in an anaconda choke very deep. By the time Jason rolled, Harris was caught and tapped out to the choke at 1:49 of the final round. The IFBL was happy to have the head of Griffon-Rawl's Jiu-Jitsu association, Relson Gracie sitting ringside cheering on our combatants. All told it was a great night of action, even though terrible weather conditions kept many away. NAAFS "Night of Champions"
Warren, Ohio
Packard Music Hall
Packard Music Hall in Warren, Ohio was the site of NAAFS action on December 1, 2007. The night was highlighted by six amateur title fights pitting the #1 vs. #2 ranked fighters in all but one weight class. Technically of Team Warfare, Paul “Str8Outta” Compton, supplemented his training at Griffon-Rawl in preparation for the 155lb Lightweight title fight vs. Kevin Rothacker of Strong Style Fight Team. Team captain Jason Dent cornered Paul for this contest. An accomplished wrestler by trade, #1 ranked Compton showed he wanted to keep the fight standing and let his hands fly early and often. Throughout the entire three rounds, Paul prevented #2 ranked Rothacker’s takedown’s with excellent sprawls, solid clinch work and pummeling. Paul got the better of the striking, landing solid rights, hooks and kept his jab pumping. When the final bell rang, Paul was awarded a unanimous decision over the ultra-tough Rothacker. Paul praised Kevin’s heart and toughness and took time to thank Griffon-Rawl.Next up was Team Griffon-Rawl’s Nick Goldizen, taking on Rising Dragon star Frank “The Tank” Carabello. For the second time in a month’s time the fans were treated to a title match-up between fighters from these excellent camps. This was also the second time in as many fights that Nick was up against the #1 ranked Welterweight in the NAAFS.Following the opening bell, Nick quickly closed the distance and shot in for a single leg. After a solid sprawl from Frank, Nick fell into guard and immediately worked for a triangle choke. Frank showed amazing strength by standing up and picking Nick up over his head ala Matt Hughes/Quentin Jackson and slammed Nick hard to the canvas. Relentless from the guard, Nick kept working but Frank hit another big slam, escaping the submission and nearly settling into solid side control position. Nick showed his BJJ prowess, keeping tight and recovering to full guard where he again went for the triangle. Frank again defended the triangle and stood up to escape where Nick was able to sink in the unique “slot machine” submission as taught by Griffon-Rawl guest, “Zee”. Frank was forced to tap midway through the very first round, bringing the Welterweight title home to Pinecone Drive. The entire night was packed with action. Fight of the night would have to go to Stevens vs. Moomey in the featherweight title match. Congratulations to all that competed and those that were able to finish the year as “champion.”Written by: John Strmac Complete Results:Preliminary BoutsLozano over McConnaughy by TKO Hayes over Brooks by TKO Hensley over Hedges by Arm TriangleBlackwell over Henderson by Arm BarProfessional BoutsBogner over Bailey by Arm TriangleStern over Canale by Arm BarHoward over Burnett by Arm BarNAAFS National Amateur Title Bouts145-Stevens over Moomey by Split Decision155-Compton over Rothacker by Unanimous Decision170-Goldizen over Carabello by Slot Machine185-Duell over Ellison by Unanimous Decision205-Lewis over Vanest by RNC265-Stansbury over Carriero by TKO

Tim Payne Promotions: "Caged Combat II"
Highland Heights, Ohio
Team Energenics Conditioning Center
Caged Combat II was held November 10, 2007 at the Team Energenics training facility in Highland Heights, Ohio. Team Griffon-Rawl was well represented, placing fighters in six of the ten match-ups. Jim Payne, Miguel Defina, AJ Carl and John Strmac returned to the cage, while Brian McCrosky and Nick Killian made their debuts. Brian McCrosky made his debut at 170lbs versus Steve Ganzorn. Brian was ready to go, but early in the first round Steve was able to land a hard right to the jaw that sent Brian to the canvass. Although Brian appeared to be gathering himself, the referee immediately jumped in and called a stop to the contest. It was a good stoppage, with fighter safety being paramount. Brian is a beast and will back in action soon.John Strmac was pitted against Edison “Puerto Rican Thunder” Martinez at 140lbs. Using his reach, John stayed outside landing hard Thai kicks to the legs and circling away from Edison’s power. John closed the distance and maintained control against the cage until the fight went to the ground. Round two went much the same way as round one. Round three started much the same way but ended with John fighting off a Guillotine submission attempt. John received a unanimous decision over Martinez after three rounds. AJ Carl bumped a weight class to face David Himes at 155lbs. AJ wasted no time in getting the action started by executing a beautiful takedown from half way across the cage and moved quickly to the mount position. He unleashed a barrage of rights and lefts, “riding” Himes as he tried to escape. The referee jumped in calling a stop to the action at 1:00 of the very first round, giving AJ a win via TKO.Nick Killian’s debut at 195lbs was only surpassed by how he took the fight. Out on a date Friday night, Nick was literally called at the last minute as a replacement to face Mike Blankenship on Saturday. With only hours to mentally prepare, Nick showed no signs of a rookie. He handled the first round, landing a beautiful cross and executing solid takedowns, controlling his opponent from the top position. Nick again came out strong, taking the fight to the ground where he unloaded causing the referee to stop the contest at 14 seconds into round two.Fighting at 170lbs, Miguel Defina was pitted against Mike Rinkers. Miguel was part of the fight of the night at Tim Payne’s last promotion. This time, Miguel was determined to finish this fight with a win and came out with unbelievable intensity. Once the bell rang, Miguel pressed the action, taking the fight to the ground where he quickly mounted Rinkers and set up a beautifully executed arm bar causing Rinkers to tap at 1:06 of the first round. In the main event at 185lbs, Jim Payne danced with Eddy Gonzales momentarily before landing a nice double-leg take down and secured side control. Fighting off a Guillotine attempt, Jim was able to maneuver to the mount position with Eddy pinned against the cage. From here, the blows came hard, often, and accurate with Jim landing upwards of 20 shots before the Eddy tapped out to strikes stopping the contest at 1:04 of the very first round.Tim Payne’s second show, (renamed “Caged Combat”) was an even better success than the first (previously named “Criminal Combat”) event. Again held at Team Energenics, there was a standing room only crowd this time around. The facility was again great with most fans being close to the action. It was clear Jason Dent and the other instructors prepared Griffon-Rawl fighters well as the team went 5-1 on the night. Tim’s next show is slated for sometime in February 2008.Written by: John Strmac Complete Results:Ron Counter def Rocco DeTillio by Unanimous Decision Chris Vespoint def Kris Morin by Split Decision Steve Ganzhorn def Brian McCrosky by TKO John Strmac def Edison Martinez by Unanimous Decision Shane Lehman def Dana Coon by Guillotine Choke AJ Carl def David Himes by TKO Nick Kilian def Mike Blankenship by TKO Miguel Defina def Michael Rinkes by Arm Bar JR Garbo def David Baker by Kimura Jim Payne def Eddie Gonzales by Submission to Strikes

NAAFS "Caged Fury 3"
Cleveland, Ohio
Masonic Temple
GriffonRawl professionals Jason “Dynamite” Dent and Donny “Eagle Eye” Walker were the two members representing the team at the Masonic Temple on November 3, 2007.Donny came out with creative fan-fare to face the Cleveland wrestling legend Sonny Marchette (Independent) in a Pro Lightweight Contender’s bout. Sonny showed why he’s an Olympic-level wrestler taking Donny down with ease to start the opening five minutes. Sonny was able to keep dominate control, moving to side position and unleashing a wicked ground and pound throughout the first round. Donny’s experience, heart and toughness were evident as he routinely recovered to full guard position, and defended well. But Sonny kept the relentless attack coming, cutting Donny with a solid elbow requiring a doctor’s approval to continue the first round.Sonny again wanted takedowns with Donny defending much better in the second round before Sonny was able to get the fight down and continue his ground and pound. With Sonny inside the guard, Donny was able to climb his legs up Sonny’s back to a triangle choke position. Donny jockeyed his legs and moved his hips into position, locked the submission in place and forced Marchette to tap out at 2:16 of round two.Technically of Team Instigator, “Cujo” Joe McCall defeated Dominic “The Punisher” Qurazzo by doctor stoppage in the second round. In the post fight interview, Joe took time to explain he had been at Griffon-Rawl for the past month in preparation for this heavyweight bout. The much-hyped and anticipated fight between Jason “Dynamite” Dent and Torrance “The Tyrant” Taylor not only lived up to the hype but will easily be the 2007 NAAFS fight of the year. Dent and Torrance clearly came to fight and fight hard. Early on it was clear Torrance was looking for another knockout, throwing hard rights and kicks at Dent. Jason proved he was up to the standup challenge, keeping the fight standing for most of the first two, five-minute rounds. Both fighters exchanged heavy blows and executed beautiful technique.Dent showed a new element to his game, executing takedowns, including a solid “crotch-lift”. Once the fight hit the ground, Dent was able hold solid position and land wicked knee’s and elbows from all angles, mounting Torrance numerous times. Torrance was scrappy on the bottom and was able to get the fight back standing, where the exchanges continued. Dent appeared to be the fresher of the two fighters throughout the later rounds. Torrance lost his mouthpiece a number of times while Dent kept the pressure on his tough opponent. When the dust settled, a split-decision in favor of Torrance came from the judge’s scorecards. Showing an amount of class and respect unsurpassed in sport, Jason assisted Torrance in putting on the champion’s belt. Torrance showed great sportsmanship as well, stating Dent was by far the toughest man he’d ever fought. As with any split-decision, controversy accompanies. Immediately following, the message board on Pro Karate Weekly was filled with those viewing the fight differently stating their opinions. What was clear is that a rematch is strongly desired at some point.Written by: John Strmac Pro Results:Torrance Taylor def. Jason Dent by Split DecisionJoe McCall def. Yankee Brawl Boxing & MMA
Brooksville, Ohio
Fresh off Suzi Manning's win earlier in the month, Team Griffon-Rawl's boxing program was again in action on October 26, 2007 in Brooksville, OH. This time it was Annie Dudas making her debut against Monique Mullent (Pound 4 Pound Boxing).Monique was looking for revenge against Team Griffon-Rawl but found the result the same. Annie played a smart game, staying mainly outside to take advantage of her reach. Her technique was crisp and little motion was wasted. The game plan never waivered throughout the three exciting rounds as Annie routinely threw her jab and cross, then quickly circled away from Monique's power hand. "Stick and move" was the theme of the night. Annie landed more solid shots by far. When the third round expired, Annie was handed a unanimous decision in her debut.Written by:John StrmacComplete Results:Unavailable at this time.

West Side Boxing Club "Friday Nite Fights"
Cleveland, Ohio
The boxing program headed by Ken Curtis made it’s debut under the Griffon-Rawl name with Suzi Manning carrying the flag for the team on October 5, 2007.Suzi was not only was making her debut and was the second last fight of the night, but had the added pressure of fighting for the newly created Women’s Middleweight crown vs. Monique Mullent (Pound 4 Pound Boxing).Monique came out strong looking to land heavy shots right off the bat. She pressed forward and appeared ready to go. Suzi’s technique proved impressive. As she slipped, bobbed and weaved, and circled away from Monique's power hand, she landed solid combinations of her own. Suzi showed nice skills in tight executing precise jabs, cross’, and hooks from both hands. Appearing a bit fatigued between rounds two and three, she told corner-man Ken Curtis, “I’ve got two more minutes.” The fatigue didn’t appear once the round began and Suzi was again able to control the contest. Next Level vs. NAAFS
Steubenville, Ohio
St. John's Arena
This trip was a little bit of a haul for us but it would not be GriffonRawl's first time heading down to Steubenville for a Next Level show. The last time we were down here Mike Russo defeated Chase Jolley & Jason Dent brought us home a Championship Belt by defeating Nick Spencer. Also on the card with Mike and Jason was UFC star Brandon Vera. This time around it would be GriffonRawl's own Nick Goldiezen who has been on a roll racking in 4 W's and 0 losses prior to this to give him the oportunity to face number one ranked NAAFS fighter Kellen Hughes. When all was said and done it just wasn't are night this time around and Nick ended up losing his first MMA fight to date. The old saying of you win some you lose some finally had meaning to Nick who was used to only winning. Make no mistake Nick is a warrior and I think this fight will make Nick into an even deadlier fighter and I truly feel sorry for his next opponent. IFBL "Fight Night 9"
Niles, Ohio
Eastwood Expo Center
Back to the IFBL for another night of action we went. There is one thing that would make this trip extremely special. Whats so special you ask well hold on I will tell you. Breanne Vickers of GriffonRawl was set to take part in the IFBL's first ever female MMA match. If that wasn't cool enough she was also GriffonRawl's first ever female MMA fighter to compete as well. Long story short Breanne won here fight but it was not easy as she had to spend three long hard rounds in there en route to a split decision victory. Also on this night three other guys represented GriffonRawl and there names are as follows Tony Wolf, Brennan Sanders, and Shawn O'neil. These three guys do Private lessons and occassionally make it to some group class with us. You see they live very far away and its hard for them to get up here as much as they should. Congrats go out to Brennan and Shawn for bringing home the W's. Tony suffered his first defeat but still has a pretty good record and you can expect to see him bounce back pretty quickly. Xtreme Combat Cage Fighting "The Revenge"
Monterrey, Mexico
Donny Walker and Jason Dent travelled south of the border on September 29, 2007 to represent Team Griffon-Rawl at Xtreme Combat Cage Fighting in Monterrey, Mexico. Both Jason and Donny both faced Mexican fighters on their home turf. What follows is a brief recap of the matches.Donny Walker fought at 150lbs against Yaotzin Meza and for two rounds it was an all out war with each getting the better of the other and then the tides would turn again. Early in the third round, Donny was in trouble but used his experience to keep calm and defended. In a somewhat controversial decision, the referee called a stop to the contest giving Meza a TKO victory. Jason was fighting at 160lbs against Israel Giron Melchor. Everything Jason heard leading to the fight was Israel was a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu disciple and expected a fight on the ground. However, seconds into round one Israel threw a vicious head kick that definetley caught Jason off guard. The first round went back and forth and it was a war throughout round one. Round 2 had some interesting tactics by Israel and had Jason against the cage where Jason was able to manuever for a Guillotine choke. Experience paid off as Jason made sure the choke was ready to go before pulling to guard position to finish. Half way down to guard Israel was tapping and Jason earned a victory via submission. The guys went "old school" for this contest as they were the only two to make the trip. Each was the other's hand wrap man, warm up man, corner man and coach.Written by:John Strmac

Tim Payne's "Criminal Combat 1"
Highland Heights, Ohio
Team Energenics Conditioning Center
Nick Goldizen, Miguel Defina, Tom Lutz, Jim Payne and John Strmac represented GriffonRawl at the first promotion of “Criminal Combat”. Held in the field house of Team Energenics, there were a total of eight amateur fights. What follows is a recap of each GriffonRawl fighter.John Strmac led the night off for GriffonRawl versus Rob Newton of Team DNA. John’s standup looked better than previous fights, where he landed a nice front kick and good hand combinations. Much of round one was fought on the ground with John attempting a guillotine and a triangle choke from the bottom as the round expired. Round two went quickly to the ground where John was unable to finish the scrappy DNA fighter after having his back for much of the round. Round three again went to the ground. After attempting one arm bar from the guard, John went right back to the arm bar only to set up a triangle choke. After jockeying for control of the arm, John finally was able to finish as Rob fell unconscious inside the triangle where the referee called a stop to the bout at 2:08 of the third round. (This portion submitted by Jason Dent.)Next up for the team was Tom Lutz making his MMA debut at 205lbs vs. Brandon White. Tom quickly landed a series of hand combinations and found himself in a guillotine attempt as the fight hit the mat. Tom executed his defense perfectly from side control, mounting and then taking the back of his opponent where he landed a series of devastating blows, including one that clipped the orbital bone above Brandon’s right eye sending blood streaming across the mat. More heavy strikes from the back mount was stopped by the referee, giving Tom a TKO victory at :57 of the very first round. The sixth fight of the night paired Jim Payne making his MMA debut against David Blanton from North Carolina. After the fighters exchanged a series of hand combinations from the feet, Jim took an opportunity to rely on his wrestling background taking David to the ground. David appeared to hold a solid guard position, but Jim maintained good posture inside the guard landing numerous solid shots to the face. Jim “smelled blood” later in the round after a solid right dazed his opponent and Jim took the opportunity to continue with a barrage a lefts and rights. The referee stepped in at 2:38 of the first round declaring a TKO win for Jim.In the co-main event, Miguel Defina made his GriffonRawl debut, having one victory under his belt at a contest in Arkansas. He was paired against Jason Lawrence from Team DNA. Both men clearly came to fight and fight hard. Miguel and Jason traded devastating shot after devastating shot, sending the crowd into frenzy and wanting more. Miguel pushed Jason against the cage landing excellent foot stomps before taking him to the ground where Miguel had the upper hand, mounting Jason as the round ended. Round two amazingly surpassed round one in action as again they traded heavy, heavy blows. Each time Miguel appeared rocked, he would land solid shot of his own and visa versa. Miguel again had the upper hand on the ground as round two ended. Sitting directly behind a judge, Mike Lachina reported the judge had rounds one and two 10-9 in favor of Miguel. Both fighters appeared exhausted in between rounds two and three. Yet, they recovered well during the minute break and round three again was packed with heavy blow after heavy blow. The referee was right on top of the action to make sure no one left with permanent damage. Jason was able to land two or three solid shots with Miguel up against the cage wall. It was at this point the referee stepped in, calling a stop to what everyone in the crowd deemed “fight of the night” at 1:12 of round three. An amazing display of heart, courage and class was shown by both fighters. The main event pitted Nick Goldizen (3-0) against undefeated Okey Lawrence of Team DNA. Action started quickly as Goldizen looked to stand and bang. Okey caught Nick with a devastating overhand right, dropping Nick to one knee. Nick recovered quickly landing hand and kick combinations before tying up Okey in the clinch, where he let loose with knees to the body. Okey defended the knee attacks, but it would prove fatal. As he scooped Nick up and slammed him hard to the mat, Nick was lying in wait, landing on his back with his legs around Okey’s neck in triangle choke position. Okey fought the position but was forced to tap at :55 of the first round. In summary, the first promotion of Tim Payne’s “Criminal Combat” was a success. The venue was great and the night well organized. All fighters from all teams showed class in victory and defeat. With three contests pitting GriffonRawl versus Team DNA fighters it was especially nice to see the level of respect each team showed the other. Dan Swift and Jason Dent should be proud the way they’ve trained their fighters for time spent before, during and following competition.Written by: John Strmac Complete Results:185 – Kenny Tackett defeated Jason Parker (Team Energenics), Guillotine Choke at :29 secs 1st Rd 145 - John Strmac (GriffonRawl) defeated Rob Newton (Team DNA), TKO Triangle Choke at 2:08 3rd Rd HVY - JR Garbo (Team Energenics) defeated Shea Frazier, TKO Strikes at 1:59 1st Rd 205 - Tom Lutz (GriffonRawl) defeated Brandon White, TKO Strikes at :57 1st Rd 205 - Jamie Johnson defeated Nate White, TKO Strikes at 2:56 1st Rd 185 - Jim Payne (GriffonRawl) defeated David Blanton, TKO Strikes at 2:38 1st Rd 170 - Jason Lawrence (Team DNA) defeated Miguel Defina (GriffonRawl), TKO Strikes at 1:12 3rd Rd 170 - Nick Goldizen(GriffonRawl) defeated Okey Lawrence (Team DNA), Triangle Choke at :55 1st Rd

NAAFS "Kickboxing 2"
Akron, Ohio
Chapparrels Community Center
Chad Mullins, Adam Sadny, and Aaron Veverka represented GriffonRawl this past weekend at Chapparrels Community Center in Akron. What follows is a recap of each GriffonRawl fighters bout.Chad Mullins started the night off for GriffonRawl, making his kickboxing debut. Chad did well in the clinch landing good knee’s and combinations and kept fighting hard the entire three rounds, never giving up even though he was up against a much taller opponent with good reach and good combinations, himself. Chad kept brawling up until the final bell pushing himself and the action. When all was said and done, the judges deemed it a unanimous decision for his opponent, Josh Breto.Aaron “Juice” Veverka was in a different class fighting Josh Pyle, who took the fight on 36 or 48 hours after Paul “Str8outa” Compton had to pull out due to a broken hand. Josh handled himself with class, giving all credit to Aaron for a well handled fight. Aaron started off with excellent combinations, closing the distance to achieve the clinch in his favor, where he was able to land round and straight knees from all angles. Round two went much the same way as round one, where eventually the referee stopped the contest at 1:42.Adam “The Cleveland City Psycho” Sadny took on NAAFS MMA staple John “Mongoose” Myers. Adam started off immediately with a left body kick after touching gloves. The two tied up with Adam getting the better of the exchange landing knees on John’s thighs. John grazed Adam with a right cross, sending Adam to the canvass due to loss of footing more than the punch. The referee did not even check Adam knowing he was okay. Action began again with Adam throwing a “set up” right followed by a devastating left-leg head kick, knocking Mongoose out cold at the 30 second mark of the very first round. He laid there for a minute or two, coming to with the aid of the doctors. Mongoose handled himself with class in defeat. In summary, the action all evening was fantastic and all GriffonRawl fights and their opponents handled themselves with class in both victory and defeat.Written by: John StrmacComplete Results:170lbs: Frank “The Tank” Carabello (Rising Dragon) over Ricky “The Thriller” Miller (Jungle Fight Team) by TKO @ :41 of Rd 3170lbs: Adam “The Cleveland City Psycho” Sadny (GRIFFONRAWL) over John “Mongoose” Myers (Instigator) by KO @ :30 of Rd 1220lbs: Mike Perry (Rising Dragon) over Mike Laush (Team Gayland) by Split Decision155lbs: Aaron “Juice” Veverka (GRIFFONRAWL) over Josh Pyle (Team Pain) by TKO @ 1:42 of Rd 2170lbs: Mike Wyatt (Jungle Fight Team) over Joe Johnston (Rising Dragon) by Unanimous Decision155lbs: Josh Breto (PowerKick Academy) over Chad Mullins (GRIFFONRAWL) by Unanimous Decision210lbs: Chris Brookins (US Muay Thai Academy) over Rob Winton (Rising Dragon) by Split Decision150lbs: Tremayne Dunbar (Don Niam Studios) over Dan Utyuzh (Vanyo Fight Team) by Unanimous Decision

It wouldnt be long until Nick made him tap due to triangle choke, and earned GR's first win of the night.Mark Stefanac vs Chris Howard followed a couple fights later. Mark quickly pulled guard, and started working for a triangle choke. And in just a little over 2 minutes into the first, Mark Stefanac would win his first ever cage fight. Thanks to all who came out to support GriffonRawl, it is much appreciated as always.Written by: Chuck KroegerFull results: Matt Lust defeated John Hedges via unanimous decision Paul Compton defeated John Myers via unanimous decision Chuck Ellison defeated Mason Woodruff via armbar in round 1 Brian Rogers defeated Frank Dachtler via TKO in round 2 Frank Carabello defeated Matt Hopkins via armbar in round 2 Paul Martin defeated Jason Eckles via submission in round 3 Mark Stefanac defeated Chris Howard via triangle choke in round 1 Norm Carriero defeated Jason Ringer via TKO in round 1 NIck Goldizen defeated Marc Cofer via triangle choke in round 1 Marvin Williams defeated Dan Cain via armbar in round 2 Jeremy Joles defeated Jim Myers via unanimous decision Fadi Nader defeated Joey Holt via unanimous decision Jack Mardis defeated Justin Clark via TKO in round 1 Justin White defeated Jerry Barrick via choke in round 1 Dave Brown defeated Erik Connor via rear naked choke in round 1 Jason Raugh defeated Rick Carrigan via TKO in round 2 John Grigware defeated John Strmac via split decision

SFN "Ultimate Cage Fighting"
Cleveland, Ohio
Gray's Armory
Yet again GriffonRawl fighters competed at Cleveland's historic Gray's Armory. Mike "The Bull" Russo, Donny "Eagle Eye" Walker, and Jason "Dynamite" Dent.First up was Mike Russo vs Chris Reedy. Chris came out with a hard slam, but Mike bounced right back and came back with a slam of his own. The first round would go back and forth, while both fighters showed great ground technique. After some more back and forth, Chris would lock in a knee bar on Russo. Russo tried to fight it off as long as he could until he had no other choice but to tap.Next fighter from GriffonRawl was Donny Walker. Donny was looking to get back onto the winning path as he would face off against Ryan Macintosh. Macintosh shot in on Walker right off the bell, and Walker immediately started to sink in a guillotine choke. A few seconds later and Macintosh either had to tap or go to sleep, and tap he would, giving GriffonRawl their first win of the night quickly in the first. This would take us up to the Main Event, a grudge match between Jason Dent and Luke Spencer. Spencer looked really good in the first taking Dent down several times, and landed many punches from Jason's guard and mount. But Jason weathered the storm to make it through the first round. The second round was a total different story. Jason came out swinging and swinging hard. Dent seemingly rocked Spencer well, and would push him into his corner with a huge storm of strikes and knees. Spencer appeared to not be able to defend himself and the ref would step in and call it in the 2nd. Thanks to all GriffonRawl friends and family who came out and gave their support!Written by:Chuck Kroeger

"Mansfield Mayhem 2"
Mansfield, Ohio
Fairhaven Hall
It was a night to remember in Mansfield for Team GriffonRawl. Four fighters from GriffonRawl set to compete infront of a huge crowd, two of which would be competing for belts.Starting the night off was Dave Osborne, Osborne would be taking on Donnie Morgan. Dave came out looking good, throwing kicks followed by punches in bunches, which would prove to be too much for the overwhelmed Morgan. Dave looked very impressive in this first rd tko to rack up his first cage win!Next on the card for GriffonRawl was Mentor PD's own, Jamie Covell. Jamies opponent, Dave Brown, came out looking very strong, taking the fight to the ground quickly, and would do much of the same in the 2nd. Jamie weathered the storm though, and in the 3rd rd, Jamie had to make something happen, or face a losing decision. Jamie dug deep, kept climbing guard, and to everyones surprise rolled out into an armbar, stealing the fight in one, if not THE most exciting finishes of the night. This takes us up to the first title fight of the night. Chuck Schilling(GR) vs Ray Jones (Team Beatdown). Schilling looked very impressive in the opening round, controlling the pace, making his presence known on the ground. The second and third was very much of the same. Chuck was in total control of all 3 rounds, and there was no doubt in the judges minds either, as Schilling would go on to win the 155lb Wreckroom Athletics Title. The last fighter from GriffonRawl to fight was AJ Pulling for the 170 lb title. AJ would be fighting one of wreckrooms own, Eric Truckovich. After standing briefly, AJ took Truckovich down, and imposed his will. This fight would not go to the cards, as AJ completed the sweep for Team GriffonRawl by armbar in the very first rd!Full Results:Shaun Heffelman over Shaun Carver Submission from Strikes Rd1 Eric Gibson over Bret Thomas Split Decision Jason Liss over DJ Carver KO in Rd 1 Mike Musslewhite over Tommy Kazias TKO in Rd 1 Dave Osborne over Donnie Morgan TKO in Rd 1 Marcus Aijan over Bill Signoracci TKO in Rd 2 Jason Nease over Brian Muich RNC in Rd 1 Jamey Kovell over Dave Brown Armbar in Rd 3 Title Fights 155lbs Chuck Schilling over Ray Jones Unanimous Decision Hvwt Seth Cole over Dave Hershberger TKO in Rd 1 170lbs AJ Pulling over Eric Truckovich Armbar in Rd 1 185lbs John "The Bullet" Fields over Zak Brodnik Split Decision 145lbs Cody Stevens over Mike Nesto Unanimous Decision

NAAFS "Fight Night in the Flats 3"
Cleveland, Ohio
Plain Dealer Pavilion
It was a great night of fights down in The Flats, including our own, Jason "Dynamite" Dent, making his return to the cage for the first time since his last fight on March 3rd at UFC 68 in Columbus. Jason was all business stepping into the cage to do battle with Mike Bogner from Team Predator. After exchanging a couple shots, Bogner's takedown attempt was unsuccessful as Jason sprawled back and immediately went for a submission. Jason locked in a anaconda choke, and 58 seconds into the first round, the ref stepped in to stop the fight, and Mike Bogner was asleep on the mat. The next main event fight was between local fighter Jason "Freebird" Freeman (Vander Fighting System) against Sean Salmon (Team Gurgel). Sean Salmon took Freeman down early in the first, and would go on to win by Keylock in the same round. The final fight was veteran Dan "The Bull" Bobish (Strongstyle) vs 5-0 Nate Eddy (Team Titan). This fight seemed to play out just as everyone anticipated. After exchanging a few punches, Bobish threw Eddy to the mat, and started to pound Eddy until he was unconscious from elbow strikes, and would not get up for sometime. Thanks to all who came to show their support!Written by: Chuck KroegerOther Pro Results:265 lbs Dave Herman 9-0 (Damage Inc) over Andre Mussi 10-4 (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) by TKO in Rd 1170 lbs Joe Heiland 8-0 (StrongStyle Fight Team) overJacob Eaton 1-3 (Team Predator) by TKO in Rd 2185 lbs John Soeder 4-0-1 (StrongStyle Fight Team) over Taiwon Howard 5-1 (Rising Dragon) by Armbar145 lbs Sonny Marchette 1-1 (Independent) vsDan Swift 27-24 (Team DNA) No Contest due to Marchette's illegal knee to a downed opponent265 lbs Joe McCall 2-0 (Independent) overJustin Black 5-1 (Wreckroom Athletics) via split decisionPreliminary Bouts265 lbs Josh Stansbury 8-1 (Next Level Fight Team) beat Matt Lisi 3-1 (Team Anarchy) via KO in Rd 1145 lbs Zach Moomey 7-1 (Scodova’s MMA and Kickboxing) over Paul Compton 8-1 (Team Warfare) by Split Decision205 lbs Joe Lewis 4-0 (Wreckroom Athletics) over Chris Canale 3-2 (Youngstown, OH) via submission in Rd 1185 lbs Chuck Ellison 6-1 (Instigator Fight Team) over Chris Green 4-2 (Team Next Level) by KO 265 lbs John Hedges 3-1 (Team Warfare) overNorm Carriero 2-1 (Independent) Doctor stoppage at the end of round 2 due to a swollen eye.170 lbs Kellen Hughes 6-1 (Team Next Level) overFrank Carabello 3-3 (Rising Dragon) by Rear Naked Choke155 lbs Kevin Rothacker 1-0 (Strong Style Fight Team) over Bill Feinberg 2-0 (Jungle Fight Team) by TKOPictures courtesy of prokarateweekly.com

IFBL "Fight Night 7"
Niles, Ohio
Eastwood Expo Center
This was our second time taking our fighters to an IFBL show and it won't be our last. Team GriffonRawl warriors that represented us were AJ Carl, John Strmac, Chuck Schilling, and of course Nick Goldizen. The night went very fast for us as our guys were fighting almost every other fight and were on the first half of the card. Our Teams record for the night ended up being 3-1 overall. Here is a quick description of our guys fights and how they won. Nick fought first and made short work of his guy by locking on a rear naked choke early in the first round. Second up for us was Chuck Schilling who ended up getting slammed pretty hard but remained relaxed and worked off of the bottom to catch his opponent in a rear naked choke also. Third up was John Strmac who looked good before getting caught in an armbar and being forced to tap out. John will be back to fight again and more focused then ever. Last but not least was AJ Carl who is the only one from our team that I actually had to go in between rounds to coach. AJ looked awesome and worked his guy over hard with some accurate and powerful ground and pounding. AJ also broke his opponents ribs with some beautiful knees to the body from side mount. After working his guy over AJ finished with a beautiful kimura to secure the win in round two. Great job I am proud of all of our guys for getting in there and going for it.Also a big thanks to all the GriffonRawl memberrs who showed up to support our guys fighting. Funs over back to training till the next time.Written by: Jason Dent

NAAFS "Caged Fury"
Cleveland, Ohio
Gray's Armory
Mike Russo (160lbs.) and Donny Walker (155 lbs) both competed in the pro division down in Cleveland Saturday for NAAFS "Caged Fury."Starting the night off for GriffonRawl was Mike "The Bull" Russo. Eventhough Mike's opponent was changed twice, the second time being within a week of the fight, "The Bull" lost no focus on what he had to do. Mike's entrance to the ring took longer than the fight itself. The bell rang, they touched gloves, and Mike quickly took Leo Fowler down. After about 10 seconds of jocking for postition, Mike found himself in top mount where he started to ground and pound Fowler. Wouldn't be long until the ref would call the fight, and Mike would get the quick "W", due to ref stoppage in the first round.Donny "Eagle Eye" Walker, would not have the same happy ending as his teammate did earlier. Donny faced off against Mike Bogner. The fight originally slotted for 155 was changed to 160 the week of the fight, due to Bogner saying he could not cut the weight. Walker's stand up looked well from the beginning. Unfortunately the percentage of the fight was spent on the ground. After three rounds of Walker being taken down, and fighting back and forth for position, Bogner was given the decision. Thanks to all who came out to support your fellow fighters and friends.Written by:Chuck KroegerFull ResultsNAAFS Pro Series Featured Bouts265 lbs – Josh “Heavy” Hendricks 17-4 (Strong Style Fight Team) over Todd Brown 13-2 (South Bend, IN) - Decision205 lbs – Jason “Freebird” Freeman 8-1 (Vander Fighting) over Jason “The Wrecking Ball” Jones 7-2 (Infinity Fight Team) - Guillotine RD1155 lbs - Mike Bogner (Team Predator) 7-3 over Donny “Eagle Eye” Walker 7-5 (GriffonRawl) - Decision185 lbs - Mitch Whitesel 8-5 (Wreckroom Athletics) over Allan Weickert 9-6 (Peek Submission Fight Team)155 lbs - Torrance “The Tyrant” Taylor 4-3 (Rising Dragon MMA) over Mike Boyd 3-2 (Strong Style Fight Team) - Submission rd3160 lbs - Mike “The Bull” Russo 12-9 (Team Griffonrawl) over Leo Fowler 3-3 (Team Predator) - TKO rd 1185 lbs - Taiwon “The Iron Dragon” Howard 5-1 (Rising Dragon MMA) over Brandon Pierce 3-1 (Team Gurgel) - TKO rd3NAAFS Preliminary Card265 lbs - Felix “The Cat” Catheline 2-0 (Wreckroom Athletics) over Greg Finney 0-1 (Team DNA) - Dec205 lbs - Brian Rogers 3-0 (Instigator Fight Team) over Mike Darling 0-2(Team Air GadFly) - TKO rd1205 lbs - Nicholas Duell 4-2 (Jungle Fight Team) over Nick Golembieski 2-2 (Knock Out Factory) - Armbar rd 1 170 lbs - Ricky “The Thriller” Miller 3-0 (Jungle Fight Team) over Kenny Rowe 0-1 (Team Air GadFly) - TKO rd 2155 lbs - Danny "Little Thunder" Balon 6-3 (DNA) 0ver Anthony Hayes 1-3 (Next Level/Easlick MMA) - Submission rd 2185 lbs - Silas "The Virus" Maynard 2-0 (Team Strongstyle) over Matthew Goshay 0-1 (John Irvin MMA) - TKO rd 2155 lbs - Aaron Dugan 1-0 (Northeastern Pummeling Den) over Aaron Weaver 0-1 (Iron Cross MMA) - DecisionResults found on PKWPhotos Coming Soon

UFC 68 "The Uprising"
Columbus, Ohio
Nationwide Arena
UFC 68: Full Results Of "The Uprising"Reported By OnlyUFCUFC 68: The Preliminary FightsJason Gilliam vs. Jamie VarnerLightweight FightRound One: After clinching with Gilliam, Varner scored a quick takedown. He advanced to Gilliam's back, and then finished things off with a rear naked choke.Jamie Varner won via submission (rear naked choke) at 1:34 of Round One.Gleison Tibau vs. Jason DentLightweight FightRound One: After some hesitation on the fight, Tibau eventually scored a takedown. He moved to side control and attacked Dent with some elbows, but he was never able to get a finish within reach. After losing side control to Dent's half-guard, Tibau tried for an arm triangle, but he didn't get it deep enough. The referee eventually stood up the fight, where Tibau managed a late-round takedown. Definitely a Tibau round.Round Two: Tibau scored a takedown early in the round, but his ground-and-pound was not eventual enough to prevent a referee intervention. Once back on his feet, Dent started connecting with some strikes, but Tibau halted his opponent's rhythm with another takedown. He delivered some shots on the ground as the round ended.Round Three: The Tibau takedown machine continued—he brought his opponent down early in the round, but he once again failed to get a finish from ground-and-pound. When the fight was stood up, Dent attempted some striking, but he slipped and exposed himself to Tibau's wrath. Gleison finished the round while in mount position.Gleison Tibau won via unanimous decision (30-27x3).Jon Fitch vs. Luigi FioravantiWelterweight FightRound One: After a striking exchange, Fitch tripped Fioravanti and quickly advanced to side control. He landed some knees to the body and then captured Fioravanti's back, but he couldn't get much done from that position. Fioravanti eventually worked Fitch off and landed a punch as the round ended.Round Two: Fitch executed a slam early in the round. Fioravanti tried to counter with a leg submission, but Fitch worked out and took Luigi's back. He eventually locked in the rear naked for the win.Jon Fitch won via submission (rear naked choke) at 3:05 of Round Two.Rex Holman vs. Matt HamillLight Heavyweight FightRound One: The fight opened with some awful striking that resulted in a light cut to Hamill. Holman, however, gassed during the exchange. Hamill eventually got a takedown, took his opponent's back, and unloaded strikes for the stoppage.Matt Hamill won via TKO (strikes) at 4:00 of Round One.UFC 68: Main Card FightsRenato Sobral vs. Jason LambertLight Heavyweight FightRound One:They circle a bit to open things up. Sobral connects with a leg kick; Lambert ducks from the impact, and Babalu throws some punches at his opponent's head. He takes Lambert down and works for control. He's working from Lambert's half guard.Lambert brings Sobral into his full guard; Babalu tries to work Lambert into the corner for an advantage. Sobral sends some shots in from atop, but they're not doing too much damage. Babalu eventually works Lambert into the cage and goes for his opponent's back. He almost secures the back; he finally gets it, and begins working for the rear naked choke.Sobral spends quite some time trying to get the choke, but he can't quite secure it deeply. Lambert works to his feet, and the two fire from clinch. Both men now have cuts.Lambert eventually rocks Sobral with some shots; Sobral hits the mat to avoid more damage. Lambert hits a few ground punches as the round ends.Round Two:They go right at it to open things up. Lambert scores a takedown, but Babalu shows competency from his back. Babalu eventually gets back to his feet, but Lambert returns with yet another takedown. He's working from Sobral's half-guard.Lambert throws some shots to the body from the top; he continues with some shoulder shots to the face. He then earns some room and nails Babalu with a few punches to the face. Babalu uses this opportunity to close his guard, but he can't stop Lambert from raining down the occasional blow.As Babalu tries to lift his legs - perhaps for a triangle - Lambert connects with an elbow and some more punches to the face. The referee stands the fight up due to a lack of action, but immediately upon the stand-up, Lambert rocks Babalu with a left. He finishes the fight with some hard punches on the ground—Babalu is out.Jason Lambert won via KO (strikes) at 3:36 of Round Two.Matt Hughes vs. Chris LytleWelterweight FightRound One:Lytle comes out swinging, and almost catches Hughes with a wild punch. He quickly locks in a guillotine, but Hughes doesn't look like he's about tok tap out.At 1:20, Lytle still has a guillotine in. Hughes is turning purple, but he's still fully awake and working hard to get out of the hold. Lytle finally gives up on the hold, and Hughes is now working from Lytle's half guard.Hughes then secures something of a headlock and works some strikes from the top. Lytle breaks the hold and Hughes is working from Lytle's butterfly guard. Lytle tries for yet another guillotine, but he's not doing enough to put Hughes to sleep.Hughes moves into side control and looks for the crucifix-style hold he used on BJ Penn and Carlos Newton. Lytle's doing a better job of keeping his arm close, however, but he's still not immune from the occasional Hughes elbow.Lytle suddenly brings his legs all the way up to Hughes' head as a defensive move, but Hughes is able to get Lytle's arm for a late armbar. The bell clearly saves Lytle.Round Two:Lytle once again responds to a Hughes takedown with a guillotine attempt, but it doesn't stick, and Hughes is back in Lytle's half-guard. By devoting so much energy to the guillotine attempt, he opens control on the guard and allows Hughes to move to side control.Hughes begins destroying Lytle with punches and elbows to the head. Hughes finally moves to full mount, but Lytle works hard enough to reduce the position to half-guard. He then, using the cage, flips to get on top of Hughes. He can't really do much from that position, and Hughes reverses to get back into side control. With twenty seconds remaining, Lytle has a legitimate chance to survive the round. Hughes accomplishes little as the bell rings.Round Three:We get the same start as last round - Hughes moves right to side control, but unlike last time, he's much less aggressive with strikes. Hughes begins to look for an america attempt, but he doesn't feel comfortable enough to commit. He throws some light punches to Lytle's face, but he's not doing nearly enough to finish the fight off. With about fifteen seconds left, the situation is the same - Hughes is accomplishing little from the top, but he's way too strong to be shaken off by a tired Lytle. IFBL "Fight Night 6"
Niles, Ohio
Eastwood Expo Center
Three GriffonRawl fighters made their debuts down at the Eastwood Expo Center in Niles OH for the IFBL "Fight Night 6," Mike Lachina, Nick Goldizen, and Ryan Lardie.Leading the night off for GriffonRawl, with the 5th fight on the card, was Judo Instructor, Mike Lachina. In the first round Mike scored with a hard slam on his opponent Chris Tripi. The round went back and forth until the bell ended rd 1. Mike was unable to continue in the second due to a problem with his contact and was unable to see.The 8th fight on the card, was Nick Goldizen who looked very impressive in his debut, and was the only fighter who's opponent already had a few fights under their belt. Nick squared off against Dana Coon (2-1). When Nick would jab, Coon did well shooting underneath, taking Nick down. Though it was Nick dictating the pace, scoring with palm strikes to the head, and working his deadly ground game. Lucky to make it out of the 1st, Coon was able to slip out of a guillotene, a couple armbars and a triangle. In the 2nd though, Coon wouldn't be so lucky. Nick sunk an armbar in so deep, locking up both Coon's arms, making him verbally tap as soon as it was applied. That brought us to our final fighter on the card, Ryan Lardie, the 12th fight. Surprisingly it wasnt Lardie's ground game getting the oohs, and ahs, but his stand up as he scored again and again with hard strikes to his opponent's, John Whitten's head. Lardie looked very impressive in his debut, scoring with strikes, and a vicious slam. At the end of the first you could tell Ryan was all buisness, staring his opponent down on the way back to his corner. It wouldn't be far into the 2nd when Ryan took Whitten down and sunk an armbar of his own causing him to tap, improving GriffonRawl's record for the night to 2-1.Thanks to all friends and family who made the long trip to support our fighters.Written by:Chuck Kroeger
